The StopGap Foundation Community Ramp Project is a volunteer-led accessibility initiative that helps remove barriers for people with mobility challenges by providing temporary, custom-built ramps to businesses with single-step entrances. The project began in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood and has since expanded to communities across Canada and internationally.

The ramps are brightly coloured, portable, and designed specifically for each storefront. They are typically built using donated materials and volunteer labour, allowing businesses to receive them at little or no cost. While the ramps are not a permanent accessibility solution, the project’s goal is also to spark conversations and raise awareness about inclusive design and accessibility in public spaces.

Community members can get involved by:

  • Leading a local Community Ramp Project
  • Volunteering to help build or paint ramps
  • Partnering with businesses and community groups
  • Supporting awareness campaigns and events
  • StopGap provides guidance, resources, and support to communities interested in launching their own local ramp projects.
