The Community Housing Growth Fund (CHGF) supports non-profit and co-operative housing initiatives in Nova Scotia. Eligible applicants include non-profit housing providers, co-operative housing providers, non-profit organizations involved in the construction or operation of affordable or non-profit housing, as well as researchers and post-secondary institutions. The fund offers three types of grants—Planning and Pre-Development, Capacity Building, and Research and Innovation—and one investment to support the establishment and operations of a provincial non-profit housing association. Notably, $2 million of the total $7 million fund is earmarked for Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving organizations. Applications must be submitted through the Centre’s online portal, My Centre. Prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss their projects with the Centre before submission.
Each application is initially evaluated by a Program Manager. Subsequently, the Community Housing Growth Fund Selection Committee, comprising one representative from Municipal Affairs and Housing, one from the Community Housing Transformation Centre, and three individuals from the Nova Scotia community housing sector or those with relevant expertise, makes the final funding decisions.
