About Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Newfoundland and Labrador
The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association - Newfoundland and Labrador (CHHA-NL) is a non-profit charitable organization committed to supporting individuals of all ages with hearing loss across the province. Established in 1984 as the Newfoundland Hearing Association, it became the provincial chapter of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association in 1994. CHHA-NL offers a range of programs and services, including one-on-one consultations, free hearing screenings, loans of hearing assistive technology, and speechreading and lipreading classes. They also provide specialized programs like the ARC Achievement Program for youth and the Alert and Aware Program for fire alert systems.
Beyond direct services, CHHA-NL engages in advocacy and education to promote hearing health awareness and accessibility. They offer presentations on topics such as understanding hearing loss and communication tips, and they provide grants and scholarships to support individuals with hearing loss. The organization is accredited by Imagine Canada and has received Buy Social Canada Certification for its social enterprises.
